'80s Metal History (September 7th)

With Pink Floyd-producer James Guthrie and inspired by the 1949 George Orwell novel "1984", Queensrÿche released their first studio album "The Warning" the first week of September 1984, featuring singles "Warning" and "Take Hold Of The Flame".

September 7, 1984: Motörhead released compilation album "No Remorse" in the UK (October 18th in North America), an overview of the band's time with Bronze Records. Four new tracks, highlighted by "Killed By Death", were also included.

September 1984: Originally titled "I'm Not What I Seem", Mercyful Fate released their second studio album "Don't Break The Oath" in North America (one month earlier in the UK) featuring single "A Dangerous Meeting". Despite winning a cult following worldwide, the band broke up in early 1985 due to musical differences.

In 1989, Metallica's Lars Ulrich joined forces with Kerrang!'s Geoff Barton to select tracks for a New Wave Of British Heavy Metal retrospective compilation LP titled "NWOBHM '79 Revisited" that was released in September 1990 in the UK (November 1990 in North America). Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, Saxon and Angel Witch are among the bands included... "All I did at the end of the last Metallica tour was sit at the back of the plane with my Walkman, listening to all these tracks and trying to find out which ones had stood the test of time the best." -Lars Ulrich

September 7, 2004: With the return of guitarist Craig Goldy, along with bassist Jeff Pilson (Dokken) and drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC), DIO released their 10th and final studio album "Master Of The Moon" in North America (August 30th in Europe) featuring single "One More For The Road". September 1986: Over a year before its release, Great White already had plans to issue the album "Recovery: Live!", even cover photo options were shot and they had a track listing, but the LP would be preceded by the band's next album "Once Bitten" in June '87 with the live album released in January '88. -Kerrang!
September 7, 1984: Featuring former UFO bassist Pete Way, Waysted released a five-track EP ahead of a UK tour supporting Iron Maiden. Release date source: Kerrang! ad - September 6, 1984.
Remembering Y&T drummer Leonard Haze, who would have celebrated a birthday today (September 7, 1958). Leonard died in 2016. R.I.P.
September 7, 1990: Nearing the end of the "Liquor & Poker" World Tour promoting their latest album "Slip Of The Tongue", Whitesnake played Reykjavik, Iceland. The band would then head off for Japan, concluding the tour on the 26th in Tokyo.
September 7, 1982: "Screaming (for Vengeance)" through Texas, Judas Priest played Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston with special guest Krokus. The opener was joined onstage by “Houston’s Miss Heavy Metal.”
