'80s Metal History (September 5th)
September 1987: Ozzy Osbourne recruited 21-year-old unknown guitarist Zach Adams from New Jersey to replace Jake E. Lee. As reported in Kerrang! at the time, "Adams is rumoured to be a Randy Rhoads lookalike."
September 5, 1983: Halfway through the "World Piece" Tour in support of their fourth album "Piece Of Mind", Iron Maiden arrived in Canada for several shows that began in Vaughan, Ontario with special guest Coney Hatch.
The first Slayer album with Def Jam Records, "Reign In Blood", was scheduled to hit stores in late August or early September 1986, but was delayed because of concerns regarding the subject matter of opening track "Angel Of Death". Def Jam's distributor, Columbia Records, refused to release the album, so it was issued by Geffen Records via Warner Bros in October '86.
September 5, 1987: Motörhead debuted on the UK album chart with their eighth studio release "Rock 'n' Roll" (October 24th on the US Billboard Top Pop Albums chart) with six tracks also appearing on the soundtrack for the British black comedy film "Eat the Rich".
September 1988: Swiss thrash metal band Coroner released their second studio album "Punishment For Decadence". Playing a complex style of progressive rock-infused thrash, they have been called "the RUSH of thrash metal". Release information source: Kerrang! review - September 10, 1988.
September 1986: With former Accept guitarist Herman Frank, German hard rockers Victory released their second studio album "Don't Get Mad... Get Even" in the UK, featuring single "Check's In The Mail". Release information source: Kerrang! - July 24, 1986.
September 5, 1987: On the "Dream Evil" Tour, DIO played the last of four shows in Spain, this one in Bilbao with special guest Helloween. That same month, Ronnie James Dio was on the cover of Japan's Burrn! Magazine.
His sophomore album "Diary Of A Madman" due in October, Ozzy Osbourne received a gold record in the US for his debut "Blizzard Of Ozz". Record World Magazine - September 5, 1981
