'80s Metal History (August 10th)
August 1983: Far more recognized in Europe and Japan than their home country, Y&T released their fifth studio album "Mean Streak" and with it started gaining traction in the US on the strength of singles "Midnight In Tokyo" and the title track.

August 10, 1985: DIO headlined "Super Rock '85 In Japan", an overnight festival in Tokyo. Rough Cutt, Mama's Boys and Earthshaker were also on the bill. The DIO performance was released on VHS later that year.
"Is there life after Metallica?" In August 1983, Megadeth were featured in fanzine Whiplash! The article introduced "Megadeath" as a potential candidate for the title of "the new band of 1983", an impression based on demo recordings provided by the band. The "Last Rites" demo issued in 1984 was part of a reissue of their '85 debut album "Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!", but the '83 demo remains unreleased, suggesting the band members might not possess any copies.
August 1989: Anthrax released the EP "Penikufesin" featuring a version of "Antisocial" with Trust vocalist Bernie Bonvoisin singing in French and Anthrax singer Joey Belladonna having "trouble pronouncing and more important, keeping up."
August 10, 2006: Iron Maiden released "Different World" as the lead single from their forthcoming album "A Matter Of Life And Death", a tribute to Thin Lizzy with low sounding melodies from Bruce Dickinson that are reminiscent of those sung by Phil Lynott 🤗 Release date source: Blabbermouth.net - August 10, 2006.
August 10, 1991: Nearly a year after releasing "Empire", Queensrÿche embarked on an open air European tour with AC/DC that began in Copenhagen with Metallica also on the bill.
August 10, 1991: In honor of military forces involved in Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War, the "Operation Rock & Roll" Tour featuring Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Motörhead, Dangerous Toys and Metal Church played Philadelphia.
August 10, 1987: Cinderella brought the "Night Songs" Tour to Japan with the first of four nights in Tokyo. Two songs from the not yet released "Long Cold Winter" album were already in the setlist, including "Gypsy Road".
Happy Birthday to former Accept singer [1988–89] David Reece (August 10th), who appeared on just one album with the band, 1989's "Eat The Heat".

August 10, 1988: In the summer, a Wednesday can feel like the weekend, especially with AC/DC in town for a show at the Hollywood Sportatorium in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
August 1983: Released in May, somehow some of us still had not purchased Iron Maiden's "Piece Of Mind" album... Seriously, if that was you, what were you even doing with your life? 🤔 Up to that point, you may have missed out on three months of a "Mind Shattering Experience", but at least you could now buy the LP or cassette for only $4.99 at Rolling Stone Records in Chicago 🤘
