'80s Metal History (June 9th)

June 9, 1986: Cinderella released their debut album "Night Songs" in North America (August '86 in the UK) featuring singles "Shake Me", "Somebody Save Me" and power ballad "Nobody's Fool". Drummer Fred Coury did not play on the album. Cinderella first toured with Loudness.

June 9, 1987: Y&T went more glam for their eighth studio album "Contagious" (June 12th in the UK). 30,000 copies were pressed with one song having the title "Boys Night Out" instead of "L.A. Rocks", but forced to change when labelmate Sammy Hagar had the same writer and song title on his new LP. June 9, 1986: American rock radio stations received a promo copy of Queensrÿche's "Walk In The Shadows", the lead single from their forthcoming album "Rage For Order". Release date source: FMQB radio trade publication - May 23, 1986; R&R radio trade publication ad - June 13, 1986.
June 9, 1986: Judas Priest played Uniondale, New York and if you couldn't make it to the show or any show, you could buy the "Fuel For Life" VHS in North America (November '86 in the UK) with all their music videos.
June 9, 1992: Ozzy Osbourne launched the "No More Tours" tour in Portland, Oregon. This was to be his last tour in order to spend time with his family because Ozzy was incorrectly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
June 9, 1988: Iron Maiden played the second of two shows in Irvine, California as part of the "Seventh Tour Of A Seventh Tour". Opener Guns N' Roses dropped off and were replaced by L.A. Guns for the remaining USA West Coast dates.
Remembering Deep Purple and Whitesnake keyboardist Jon Lord, who would have celebrated a birthday today (June 9, 1941). Jon died in 2012. R.I.P.

June 9, 1983: Rolling across North America promoting the red hot "Pyromania" album, Def Leppard played Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the only full-length audience shot video from the entire "Pyromania" tour... you can watch it on YouTube.
They weren't receiving much radio airplay yet in the US, but no matter, "Every one of Judas Priest's 32 headlining concerts stretching from Albany to Austin was sold out. Audience reaction can only be described as worshipful." 🤘 Billboard ad - June 9, 1979
June 9, 1982: Spending some quality time in Edmonton, Mötley Crüe played five shows in the Canadian city with the third night at Scandals almost derailed due to a bomb threat. Nikki Sixx downplayed the news saying then "We don't really care either. We're here to give everybody their money's worth for the show. If people don't enjoy it, they don't have to come and see it." The show went on without incident because the band later revealed that it had been a public relations stunt. 😏
June 9, 2023: Celebrating 40 Years of Ratt n’ Roll!, "RATT: The Atlantic Years 1984-1991" was released as a limited edition box set (5,000 copies) on vinyl and CD. Both collections include the albums "Out Of The Cellar", "Invasion Of Your Privacy", "Dancing Undercover", "Reach For The Sky" and "Detonator". The vinyl set also includes 1991's "Nobody Rides For Free" from the "Point Break" movie soundtrack as a 7" single, along with a 12-page replica tour book (featuring rare and never-before-seen photos from RATT's personal archives), 11"x17" wanted poster, bumper sticker, replica backstage pass, and guitar pick in a custom lift-top box.
